Frequently asked questions

How do I keep lecture slides, whiteboards and notes organized on my phone?

Make a topic for each course, project or anything else, such as “Lectures”, “Receipts” or “Travel”. Choose it in Piccove’s camera and every photo and video goes straight into that topic, so there is nothing to sort later.

Each topic is a real album on iPhone and a real folder on Android, so your gallery shows the same order.

Can I search my photos by the text in them?

Yes. Piccove reads the printed text in your topics’ photos, and often neat handwriting, on your phone. Search for any word, such as a slide title, a formula or a shop’s name on a receipt, and Piccove shows the photos that contain it, with the match highlighted.

Where are my photos saved?

In your phone’s own photo library, as ordinary photos and videos that any gallery app can open.

iPhone: in Photos, one album per topic, inside a folder called “Piccove”. With Limited access, iOS doesn’t let apps make folders, so the albums sit at the top level instead.

Android: in DCIM/Piccove, one folder per topic. Renaming a topic renames its folder.

What does Limited access mean on iPhone?

With Limited access, Piccove sees only the photos it took and the ones you select. Everything you shoot is still saved into its topic’s album.

To let Piccove see more, open Piccove’s Settings › Photos › Select more photos. To give it your whole library, choose Full Access in the iPhone’s Settings › Apps › Piccove › Photos.

Android has no such setting: Piccove saves into its own folders, and you pick existing photos through Android’s photo picker.

Which languages can Piccove read?

iPhone: the languages Apple’s text recognition supports, including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Polish, Czech, Romanian, Turkish, Indonesian, Malay, Vietnamese, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The exact list depends on your iOS version.

Android: languages written in the Latin alphabet, such as English, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese.

Bengali isn’t supported yet. Neat handwriting often works, but printed text is the most reliable. Settings › Text recognition in Piccove lists the languages your phone can read.

What happens if I uninstall Piccove?

Your photos and videos stay in your library, in their albums or folders, exactly where Piccove saved them.

Piccove’s own data is removed: your topic list, the text it read, recent searches and settings. If you install it again, it starts fresh and reads your photos again as you add them.

How do I back up my topics on Android?

Google Photos backs up only your Camera folder by default. To back up your topics too, open Google Photos › Collections › On this device and turn on backup for each Piccove folder.

On iPhone, iCloud Photos (if you use it) syncs Piccove’s albums like any other album.

Does Piccove need an internet connection or an account?

No. Piccove works fully offline, with no sign-up. Text recognition runs on your phone, and nothing is uploaded. On Android it doesn’t even ask for internet access.

Can I add photos I already have?

Yes. Open a topic, tap ••• and choose Import photos to pick photos and videos from your library. On iPhone they’re added to the topic’s album; on Android they stay where they are and Piccove remembers them. Either way, Piccove reads their text too.

Which phones does Piccove run on, and what does it cost?

iPhones with iOS 16 or later, and Android phones and tablets with Android 10 or later. Piccove is free, with no ads.
